METHODOLOGY PROBLEMS

5-28 1450
Abstract

The paper is devoted to the quality issue of the research conducted by the candidates for a scientific degree in pedagogy and psychology. The author – Chairman of the Expert Council in Pedagogy and Psychology of the Higher Attestation Commission and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Education –points out once again that awarding the scientific degree involves both the assessment of the research work and validation of the candidate’s contribution to the scientific society: publications, conference and symposium presentations, participation in discussions, etc.

The paper exemplifies and analyzes the shortcomings of the thesis research: methodological illiteracy, incorrect wording, irrelevant and narrow themes and hypotheses, obvious borrowing of ideas, lack of novelty. The author lays the blame for the undue level of theses on the candidates for a degree, as well as the expert society – the department and laboratory staff, scientific and dissertation councils, scientific advisors, opponents and consult- ants, and experts of the Higher Attestation Commission. The paper suggests the correcting ways to improve the current situation in theses preparation, its defense and approval.

Abstract

The paper investigates the subject of pedagogic acmeology as an evolving phenomenon integrating a complex set of pedagogic, psychological, anthropological and socially significant characteristics. The methodology framework is based on dialectics – «the only method that can grasp a living reality on the whole» (A. F. Losev). As the result, the author comes up with his own definition of pedagogic acmeology as a science dealing with the conformities and ways of developing the human potential and aimed at the positive personal achievements in educational process; wherein the man is regarded as the human subject, individual and individuality - i.e. a holistic multidimensional personality.

The significant conclusion of the study involves the idea that pedagogic acmeology should not be confined to teacher’s professional activities, as it was previously stated, but should include the activities of a learner as a growing and developing human being. In other words, pedagogic acmeology should overcome the age restrictions confining its subject matters to the adult’s activities.

QUALIMETRIC APPROACH IN EDUCATION

46-67 1571
Abstract

The necessity of changing the approach to qualification assessment appears to be one of the main topics for discussion in the modern scientific pedagogic society. In the sphere of vocational education both in Russia and abroad, the emphasis is increasingly shifting to the learning outcomes: the expediency principle is regarded as the leading one; the operational component of professional readiness takes the first place; the results of mastering the educational program, as well as self-education and self- development, are viewed as providing the qualification significant for the labor market and based on the actual work requirements.

Unfortunately, there is no unified methodology of qualification assessment; such integrated assessment of professional readiness for applying the acquired knowledge and skills in practice is urgently needed. The authors recommend a new concept of qualification assessment based on the experience of higher vocational educational establishments both in Russia and abroad. The reasons for changing the content of qualification concept are out- lined, the principles of quality assessment in modern conditions are revealed along with the concept terminology mechanism and method of independent expertise procedure.

Abstract

With the competence approach spreading in education, there is an urgent need for a transition from the knowledge assessment to estimation of the competence formation. The paper provides the criteria for such es- timation; denotes the levels of mastering a competence (unconscious and conscious incompetence, conscious and unconscious competence); demonstrates the option of the complex competence estimation, taking into consid- eration the experts’ assessment, students’ self-assessment, and the training process complexity and logic. The competence qualimetry is exemplified by the training competence diagnostics (i.e. the ability to recognize and apply the theoretical methods) regarding the cognitive and active components. The paper observes the diagnostic methods including the questionnaires, tests and text analysis. The patterns of feasible diagnostic tasks are given along with the qualimetric results of students’ competence.

The regular diagnostic procedures provide the opportunity for identifying the gaps in students’ knowledge and the lack of necessary skills, and correct, thereafter, the training process accordingly. The research findings might be of interest to the higher school teachers and qualimetry specialists.

PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH IN EDUCATION

79-87 1494
Abstract

The paper discusses the peculiarities of students’ professional identity in the context of socially conditioned conflicting realities. The individual social position is of a particular importance for the professional identity formation, so the authors carried out the research into the students professional self-determination with the reference to their socio-metric status in the academic group; the interpersonal relations were considered as conflict- generating – provoking the conflicting realities of students’ professional self- determination.

The theoretical basis of the study involves the concept of personal professional growth with the emphasis on the students’ self-determination in the conflict situations. The research methodology combines the diagnostics of professional self-determination and socio-metric methods.

The analysis and synthesis of the acquired empirical data reveal the differences in the expressed levels of components of the students’ professional identity according to their socio-metric status in the group. The research findings include the conformity of conflicting realities arising in interpersonal relationships in the academic process and reflected in the professional identity transformation.

The above results can be used for psychological facilitation of students’ successful professional growth.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Abstract

Due to the intensive economic growth and consumer society formation, there expands a view that the human life value depends mainly on the material benefits and money; meanwhile, the moral values trail behind leading the humanity towards the spiritual crisis. The author recommends addressing the heritage of our great ancestors and studying both the works of L. N. Tolstoy and Taoism philosophy in order to maintain the spiritual self and revive our faith in human powers. Taoism is the native law of the world’s order demonstrating the natural ways of life, developing the harmonious life style, and teaching the natural control methods in compliance with the laws of nature.

For the most Russian and Chinese readers Lev Tolstoy is a great writer and thinker; his philosophic system being one of the most significant in the Russian spirituality and ideology.

L. Tolstoy rejected the western rationalism and studied the Chinese philosophic and religious doctrines. The author conducted a comparative analysis of Tolstoy’s concepts (non-resistance to evil by violence, wise non- doing) and Taoism key concepts, and makes a conclusion about their organic interrelations, and the influence of the Chinese wisdom on Tolstoy’s works and worldview.

ИСТОРИЯ ПЕДАГОГИКИ

Abstract

The paper discusses the level and quality of employees’ technical training at the private factories in the Ural region in the pre-reform period of the XIX century, which appears to be one of the least explored aspects in the history of education. Analyzing the existing data and preserved documents, the author attempts to fill the above gaps and demonstrates the dynamics of the private schools development in the factory settlements of the region, their curricula and the government’s attitude to the issue of the factory serfs’ training. The research findings reveal that despite the government’s resistance the number of educated professionals and technicians was gradu- ally increasing in the first half of the XIX century. It was especially noticeable in the large private factories owned by the Demidovs, Stroganoffs and Vsevolozhskys. In the middle of the century, the expertise and skills of the top and senior managerial and technical staff had met the existing requirements. However, the top managers and factory owners anticipated the forthcoming changes in the personnel policy due to the engineering and industrial development in the last half of the century.

PRESCHOOL EDUCATION

Abstract

Using computers in the preschool children teaching is a comparatively new and actively discussed idea in pedagogic society. The research is aimed at substantiating the necessity and effectiveness of integrating the information technologies into the physical education classes of the senior preschool children, in particular, for the health preserving training. The author describes the methods developing the health preserving attitude and skills. One of them - the biological feedback method, based on using the “Breathing” computer simulator, - is regarded as the perspective one.

The paper contains the theoretical and practical materials on the problem of information technologies application in preschool educational establishments; the obvious pedagogic, methodological and economic advantages are given in comparison with the traditional educational forms.

The paper is targeting the teachers and students of pedagogic higher schools and physical training institutes, scientists, methodologists, and information technologies experts in educational sphere.

ТОЧКА ЗРЕНИЯ

Abstract

Both students and specialists have to master a large volume of mathematical information mainly through books and manuals, which generally concerns the accepted definitions and proved theorems. However, it is rather difficult to find out texts tracing the genesis of a definite mathematical statement or the life of a certain mathematician. The paper attempts to achieve the balance by describing the invention process of a mathematical theorem. Apart from the activity-production dualism, the paper illustrates the fact that any mathematical statement development demands quite complicated and even contradictive illogical approaches, and only thereafter it gets a rigorous didactic proof (inductive-deductive dualism). The author also elicits the interrelation between an individual and society, the mutual influence of a mathematician and his colleagues - both the close and remote ones in distance and time. Therefore, the analysis of such process as a theorem invention can reveal the fundamental didactic characteristics inherent to mathematics, as well as any other scientific discipline.

The paper is addressed to teachers, postgraduates and students specializing in natural sciences and technical disciplines related to mathematics.

Abstract

The paper looks at the ways of enhancing and stimulating the creative activity and initiative of pedagogic students – the prospective specialists called for educating and upbringing socially and professionally competent, originally thinking, versatile personalities. For developing their creative abilities the author recommends introducing the heuristic combination methods, applied for engineering creativity facilitation; associative-synectic technology; and computer graphics tools. The paper contains the comparative analysis of the main heuristic method operations and the computer graphics redactor in creating a visual composition. The examples of implementing the heuristic combination methods are described along with the extracts of the laboratory classes designed for creativity and its motivation developments. The approbation of the given method in the several universities confirms the prospects of enhancing the students’ learning and creative activities.
